The House of Peace New Addition Improves Services for Needs of a Growing Community

Milwaukee, Wis., (October 31, 2007)- Triad Construction Inc. completed the new addition and renovation of the House of Peace which will accommodate greater volumes of food and clothing to meet community needs, as well as provide more efficient space for other House of Peace projects.

The House of Peace provides 30,000 services per year to families and individuals in need throughout Milwaukee. According to a representative at the House of Peace, with the 14,000 square foot addition, these services are expected to increase by 20 percent. This new addition, consisting of two floors, accommodates the food pantry, the Capuchin Clothes Closet, general storage, and expansion of multipurpose areas. The renovation of existing space adds increased functionality for the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee staffed nursing clinic and the law clinic staffed and funded by the Marquette University Law School.

The entire project was preformed while the House of Peace continued to serve the community in a compressed space smaller than the original space itself. Father Al and Theresa Johanek of the House of Peace said, “The Triad Construction crew was experienced and outstanding at fitting into the culture of the House of Peace. Good planning of construction phases and transitions was key to a smooth operation and to completing the project by the scheduled date.”

Werner Holentunder, House of Peace project manager and president of Triad Construction Inc. said, “Triad was excited to work on this project for a number of reasons. We knew there would be scheduling and phasing challenges with the ongoing programs. The cooperation of all people associated with the House of Peace was an essential part of the process. This project is also special to all of us at Triad because of what it represents to the community.”

The House of Peace is particularly excited about the two new elevators and wheelchair lift which provide wheelchair accessibility for clients, volunteers, and staff. Funds were raised for this project through a capital campaign. Foundations, business groups, and individuals all contributed to the success of the project, especially the owner of the ministry, The Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order.

This finished renovation is very important to the staff at the House of Peace who will be distributing the holiday food boxes and toys to needy families in the community throughout December.
